Lee Jae Myung says he wants Korean Peninsula "free from nuclear weapons"
“free from nuclear weapons”

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung used a UN General Assembly address to say he wanted to stop North Korea’s weapons program from growing further and ultimately see the Korean Peninsula cleared of nuclear arms, and he said Seoul would prepare for resumed talks between Pyongyang and Washington. A day later, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui dismissed that aim in a KCNA statement, saying her country will keep its nuclear weapons for all time and that its nuclear-armed position has legal force and cannot be undone. Pyongyang separately reported a Sept. 22 weapons test, saying the rockets could reach targets 115 kilometers away.
