Donald Trump says "destroying itself by allowing millions" about Canada's immigration

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand responded that immigration has generally improved Canadian prosperity, adding that Ottawa lowered its intake in 2024 and is now stabilizing levels so housing and health care stay accessible, with temporary resident numbers to fall to five per cent by the end of 2027. Statistics Canada data show population growth of 0.2 per cent in the second quarter, immigration down 4.2 per cent year over year and non-permanent residents down 0.7 per cent. Permanent resident admissions dropped to about 393,500 in 2025 from a record 483,640 in 2024.
