Netanyahu says "tell the truth about our heroic soldiers" in U.N. address

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to speak at the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday ahead of an Oct. 27 election and amid criticism over the Gaza war. He has indicated he will use the address to defend Israel's troops and respond to New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who campaigned to arrest him over alleged war crimes but later said he lacked the authority to do so. Mamdani has accused Netanyahu of genocide against Palestinians; Netanyahu has accused Mamdani of supporting Hamas, which Mamdani denies. Netanyahu's remarks are also expected to cover Iran and calls for Hamas to disarm. No meeting is scheduled with President Donald Trump, a significant absence before the election. Netanyahu's New York visit is expected to last less than eight hours, partly due to the Sukkot holiday.
