Burnham, the only candidate to take over the centre-left party, faces calls from supporters to prioritize domestic problems like the cost of living, though he has pledged to maintain the same backing for Ukraine. Starmer expressed no personal ill will toward Burnham and affirmed he would do everything possible to ensure the next government's success. Burnham could assume office by mid-July.
