Xi Jinping says Trump's "make America great again" pledge and China's renewal can support each other

Chinese President Xi Jinping traveled to Washington for a White House summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, including a Thursday state dinner. No breakthroughs were evident on trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan or Iran. In his banquet toast, Xi linked the domestic goal Trump has said he is pursuing for the United States with China's own renewal aim, saying the two could support each other. Xi described the talks as wide-ranging and said they yielded areas of agreement, but he gave no specifics. The visit was Xi's first to the U.S. capital in more than ten years and the leaders' second meeting this year, bringing together the heads of the world's two largest economies. The White House had not yet released its own account of the discussions.
