Vladimir Putin says Moscow would welcome "agreement of a positive nature" in Trump-Xi talks

Speaking with reporters in St. Petersburg on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed this week's Washington talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying Moscow would welcome any constructive result between the two countries. He also said whether he attends the upcoming APEC summit in China would depend on domestic circumstances in Russia. The comments came alongside Putin's remarks on the war in Ukraine, where he said options for ending the conflict were still open, accused Kyiv of launching attacks on Moscow and polling sites around Russian parliamentary elections, including an attack that killed an election official, and said Russia would respond. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has described strikes on Russia as retaliation for attacks on Ukraine's civilian targets and infrastructure and has sought direct negotiations.
