President Donald Trump says he approved revised fuel-economy rules that end the EPA’s earlier electric-vehicle sales targets, a move he says will reduce car prices; regulators have not released the completed regulation. His administration also ended electric-vehicle subsidies and the sales requirement. Trump says tariffs and other policies have brought automakers back to the U.S., and Stellantis has announced a planned $13 billion outlay for Midwest auto plants in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. In his post, Trump said more than $100 billion is being invested in American autos, thanked Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and mentioned Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and South Carolina while praising the administration’s auto-industry efforts. The mileage requirements would decline from an earlier goal of roughly 50 mpg in 2031 to about 34–35 mpg, with electric vehicles no longer receiving extra credit.
