“the politics of self-hatred and the mass invasion of migrants”
US Vice President JD Vance recently gave an interview to The Sunday Times, praising Britain as an “amazing” nation but arguing that its leadership has let the country down, pointing to the rapid turnover of six prime ministers in a few years as evidence of deep political dysfunction. He expressed hope that Andy Burnham or another leader could deliver structural change. The interview came amid ongoing controversy over Vance’s earlier comments following the murder of student Henry Nowak in Southampton, where he attributed the killing to what he described as “the politics of self-hatred and the mass invasion of migrants.” That remark drew a sharp rebuke from Downing Street, which accused him of meddling and seeking to inflame divisions. Vance also previously encouraged anti-immigration protesters in the UK and has criticized British free-speech restrictions.
