On Sunday a male and female giant panda were flown from Chengdu to Atlanta, arriving on a specially arranged cargo jet as part of a newly signed loan arrangement between Zoo Atlanta and China’s wildlife conservation agency, which will make the city one of three U.S. locations to exhibit the species. The pandas, born in 2020, will spend roughly a month in a secure quarantine area before being displayed, though an exact opening date has not been set. The loan was announced by President Xi during his three‑day talks with President Trump and was highlighted as a tangible result of the meeting, with Xi describing the arrangement as a gesture of goodwill between China and the United States.
