Donald Trump on slowing AI says "why should we give that up?"
“We're leading, and we're building tremendous, trillions of dollars' worth of places. And why should we give that up?”

President Donald Trump told Fox News on Sunday, while attending the Presidents Cup golf tournament in Illinois, that he would have dinner that night with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, but he restated his opposition to slowing artificial intelligence work. Trump said he understood Amodei's concern that moving too quickly could raise risks, yet argued that preserving a technological advantage over China mattered more and said the United States was roughly eighteen months ahead. The meeting comes as executives at competing AI companies—OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Microsoft and xAI—have urged slower development, and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said in a separate Sunday interview that he wanted to meet with Trump and backed required safeguards. Trump has previously dismissed such worries and told Fox he was unconcerned by OpenAI's account of an autonomous agent breaching another company during a security test.
