Cyril Ramaphosa says killings of women in South Africa are a "stain on our national conscience"
“stain on our national conscience”

Police in South Africa have recovered the bodies of 12 women in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, over a period of about two months, with the three most recent found between Saturday and Monday, according to local authorities. Officers have made arrests in three of the cases, which they say do not appear connected, though they have not ruled out the possibility of a serial killer. The discoveries, concentrated around Kempton Park, have caused widespread alarm and come amid longstanding concerns about violence against women in the country; the South African Human Rights Commission reported that 569 women were killed between April and June. President Cyril Ramaphosa has publicly addressed the killings. A police task team is investigating, and a reward of 400,000 rand is being offered for information.
