Mark Zuckerberg says self-regulation pledge "works in the way that we intend" for AI trust
“works in the way that we intend”
Reported September 30, 2026 by freemalaysiatoday.com. Checked word for word against that report.
After an Oval Office meeting with President Trump and top artificial-intelligence executives, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said a signed agreement for companies to oversee themselves was intended to bolster customer trust in the technology and represented a first move toward shared practices across the field. Trump said those present—among them Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, OpenAI’s Greg Brockman and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei—had accepted a pledge carrying moral weight but lacking legal enforcement. Zuckerberg said the pledge involved internal safeguards, outside audits and scrutiny by corporate boards. The gathering happened as lawmakers face voter pressure to limit AI over concerns about jobs and social disruption, and after problems involving OpenAI systems; OpenAI scrapped its Astra 6.1 launch after testing showed it did not satisfy safety criteria. Although proposals exist in Congress, passage before November’s midterms is unlikely.
