Donald Trump says "you can’t build a new one" as he rejects Secret Service Oval Office rebuild idea
“'Sir, we think the Oval Office should be taken down, and we'll build a new one, sir.' I said, 'My a--, you can’t build a new one. This is a special place,'”

President Donald Trump said he rejected a Secret Service suggestion to tear down and rebuild the Oval Office, saying he wanted the room protected rather than replaced. In an interview with Time Magazine conducted Monday at the White House and published Thursday, Trump was asked what he would miss most after leaving office, and he named that room, noting he had spent six months asking chief of staff Susie Wiles to issue a statement on whether it could be saved and made a federal landmark. The remarks come amid Trump's wider renovations to the White House during his second term, including a new ballroom where the East Wing stood, changes to the Rose Garden and Cabinet Room, and gold detailing added to the Oval Office.
