Albanese says of late Liberal lawmaker Bruce Baird: "a real gentleman and a true parliamentarian"

Bruce Baird, a former Liberal lawmaker who served in New South Wales' lower house from 1984 to 1995 and later in the federal seat of Cook until 2007, has died at 84. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was among political figures from multiple parties who paid tribute, issuing a statement that praised Baird and noted the widespread regard for him. Albanese also offered condolences to Baird's children, Julia, Steve and Mike, and referenced Baird's affection for the surf at Manly. Tributes from former prime minister Scott Morrison, who took over Cook after Baird, and other Liberal colleagues emphasized his role as a mentor and his extensive public service.
