Donald Trump tells Cotton on daylight saving time bill: "TAKE THE WIN TOM, JUST TAKE THE WIN!"

President Donald Trump on Saturday escalated a dispute with Sen. Tom Cotton over legislation to make daylight saving time permanent, after earlier sharing a phone number he said was Cotton’s and urging calls. Cotton, an Arkansas Republican, opposes the Trump-backed Sunshine Protection Act, arguing that year-round daylight saving would force winter mornings to start in darkness and that he will prioritize his state. After Cotton defended his position on X, Trump posted again on Truth Social, framing the issue as a political opportunity for Republicans and pressing Cotton to support the measure. The House passed the bill in July, but the Senate has not acted; Sen. John Kennedy said he doubted it would reach a vote. Clocks are scheduled to change Nov. 1. Cotton’s reelection race is not considered competitive.
