Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar, who won three National Film Awards, has died at 75 in Goa, his son Malhar told BBC Marathi. He was found unconscious at his home early Thursday and could not be revived after 45 minutes of CPR, according to Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among those who paid tribute, praising Patekar's range as a performer and his readiness to speak his mind, and saying his death leaves a significant absence in the arts. Known for intense, volatile characters in Hindi and Marathi film and theatre, Patekar also drew a tribute from actor Akshay Kumar, his co-star in the comedy Welcome.
