Elon Musk asks Mukesh Ambani to "consider allowing Starlink to compete" in India satellite market
“Naturally, you would prefer to maintain your monopolistic exploitation of the great people of India, but would you nonetheless consider allowing Starlink to compete?”

Elon Musk, the SpaceX and Tesla chief, again criticized Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani on X on October 9, 2026, amid an ongoing dispute over Starlink’s proposed entry into India’s satellite communications market. In the post, Musk used a sarcastic title for Ambani and alleged that Ambani sought to preserve his market position, then questioned whether the satellite service would be allowed to operate alongside existing providers. Musk has argued Starlink could help connect areas lacking internet access. The Indian government rejected suggestions that Starlink was being treated unequally, saying its licensing rules apply the same to all. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said no sector in India is permitted to be monopolized, three satellite-communications licenses have been granted, and licensees must satisfy security requirements before launching services. Starlink holds a license but still must complete remaining security and regulatory steps.
