Trump says "Massive Oil, Gas, and Mineral Exploration" will soon start in Greenland

President Donald Trump posted Wednesday on Truth Social that large-scale exploration for oil, natural gas and minerals would soon start in Greenland, an autonomous territory within Denmark. Trump, citing experts, described the island’s easily accessible oil deposits as among the biggest globally, though he gave no specifics about possible American participation. The statement came after an agreement last month with Danish and Greenlandic leaders. It broadens the U.S. military role, calls for two additional bases and the planned “Golden Dome” missile shield, while recognizing Denmark’s authority and Greenlanders’ ability to govern themselves. That pact sought to resolve almost two years of tensions caused by Trump’s refusal to rule out taking Greenland by force. Trump also said the security gains were unequaled, contending an assault on the U.S. would have to cross Greenland. Neither Greenlandic nor Danish officials responded immediately.
