Zelensky says Russia's attack came as Ukraine's defenses were "being artificially restricted"

Ukraine’s air force said it intercepted 536 drones during a large overnight Russian attack on Thursday, while President Volodymyr Zelensky said more than 850 were launched and strikes hit 15 regions; a 10-hour attack in Kirovohrad killed three people and wounded six. In a post on X, Zelensky said the barrage coincided with outside constraints on Ukraine’s defensive response, and he said Russia deliberately escalated after sanctions relief and as Ukraine faced pressure. The attack followed deepening friction with US President Donald Trump: Zelensky said a short truce had ended after Moscow kept striking, said Ukraine had been denied intelligence and faced Starlink limits, and said Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries would resume. Ukrainian drones hit a refinery in Ryazan, according to Russian officials and a Ukrainian official. Zelensky was due in Brussels for EU talks after visiting London.
