Donald Trump says he spoke with Katie Zacharia about remaining in her job: "you don’t need this"

White House press secretary Katie Zacharia was fired five days into her tenure, according to reports, after a difficult debut briefing and scrutiny of her legal credentials. The Wall Street Journal was interviewing her in her West Wing office on Friday when senior adviser Jason Miller said Vice President JD Vance wanted to speak with her; she did not return to the interview or the role. President Donald Trump later told reporters he had spoken with her about whether she should remain in the job. Zacharia’s Tuesday briefing lasted 14 minutes, relied on a script and took three questions. Questions about her credentials arose after Trump called her an attorney; she later said she had not passed the bar exam. The departure leaves the press secretary post vacant weeks before the midterms.
