Elon Musk says plan to give each US child a SpaceX share "will be the first of many"

Elon Musk said on X that next year he would give each child in the United States one share of SpaceX, a promise made shortly after Anthropic unveiled a plan to direct at least 5% of its equity into a public benefit fund. The two announcements came as AI companies face questions about jobs and safety. At SpaceX’s closing price on Friday, the proposed distribution would be worth about $146 per child, though Musk did not explain who would qualify, how shares would be transferred, or when. Anthropic’s fund, subject to shareholder approval, could support charities or payments to workers whose jobs are affected by AI, and the company said it had already spent $200m studying employment effects. Neither firm has said how much would ultimately reach recipients.
