Trump says New Mexico name change would "add great value and prestige"
“The name would add great value and prestige to the State! Home Values and Incomes would rise, and you would be even prouder while saluting our beautiful American Flag!”

President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post that New Mexico should adopt the name New America, asserting that doing so would yield financial and civic advantages; he provided no substantiation for those benefits or for a claim about voting in the state. The suggestion repeats a proposal he made last month and at the RNC Midterm Convention on Sept. 9. Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham rejected it, saying the name existed before the U.S. and describing the White House effort as a diversion while her administration addresses early education, medical care, housing, and childcare. New Mexico’s constitution states the state’s name. The latest comment came after Trump’s federal-use changes to Lake Ontario and the Gulf of Mexico. No procedure for a rename was described.
