Rubio says Trump-China-Russia talks involve "the three most powerful nuclear-armed nations on Earth"

During a visit to India on Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended a proposed meeting involving President Donald Trump and the leaders of China and Russia at a summit in China next month. The discussions would address issues including Russia’s war in Ukraine. According to the report, many critics have said the plan would amount to deserting Ukraine. Rubio told reporters he rejected those concerns, saying a leader-level U.S.-China-Russia conversation, including on arms control, could be beneficial and that fears the meeting would signal weakness were mistaken. He also dismissed the argument that speaking with such governments merely rewards them. The dispute matters because it sets hopes for high-level diplomacy against concerns that the talks could weaken support for Kyiv.
