António Guterres says "all countries, especially the big emitters, must do more" on climate action
“all countries, especially the big emitters, must do more”

The United Nations Environment Programme released its annual Emissions Gap Report, warning that even if nations fully implement their latest pledges, the planet is on track for a temperature rise of about 2.6 °C by the end of the century, well above the Paris aim of staying below 2 °C and pursuing 1.5 °C. The study shows global greenhouse‑gas output in 2025 was essentially unchanged from the previous year, with coal, oil and gas emissions edging higher. The United States posted the largest absolute increase among major polluters, while other top emitters showed mixed trends. Guterres highlighted that every nation, particularly the largest emitters, needs to accelerate reductions, noting that current policies fall far short of what science demands ahead of the upcoming COP31 talks.
