“any proposals for a ceasefire, an end to the war, an energy ceasefire as well as humanitarian initiatives”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking to reporters via WhatsApp as he returned from Norway, backed a U.S. proposal for representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the United States to meet soon, preferably by early November. His comments followed U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff’s discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg and contacts between Ukrainian and American officials. Zelensky said Kyiv had received word that Moscow favored a three-way meeting of the countries’ negotiators. The Kremlin said Putin had accepted the idea of renewed American-facilitated talks after Nov. 10; the last such round was in February. Zelensky also expressed support for proposals to pause combat, protect power supplies and address relief needs. The push comes as Washington’s peace efforts have made little headway and fighting continues.
