Macron cites "foreign manipulation of information" in France unrest
“foreign manipulation of information”
Reported October 22, 2026 by iheart.com. Checked word for word against that report.
French President Emmanuel Macron rejected assertions by U.S. President Donald Trump and other Republicans that Muslim immigrants caused recent unrest in France, saying the accusation was unsupported and that French authorities had not connected immigrants to the violence. More than 500,000 people demonstrated over living costs and fuel prices; most protests were peaceful, but some included rioting and looting. Trump urged Macron to impose border controls, according to the Associated Press. Macron pointed to deceptive material from abroad and fabricated AI images of events that never happened, and he accused American political figures of using France’s turmoil to benefit their campaigns. He also sought diesel supplies from Gulf states to address energy prices and planned curfews and a security deployment for further protests.
