Netanyahu says on Iran: "the only leader to do it in Israel is me"

Amid heightened discussion in Washington and Jerusalem of possible new strikes on Iran over its nuclear and missile work, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told The Jerusalem Post that Tehran had been near building several atomic bombs about a year earlier and that stopping Iran from gaining the means to destroy Israel has been central to his adult life. In the interview, he indicated he would follow President Trump’s call to complete the effort and presented himself as the Israeli leader Trump would partner with, saying Trump had ruled out working with another Israeli leader. Separately, Israel closed the West Bank after two Palestinian gunmen near Hebron killed two soldiers and wounded others; troops killed the attackers. The closure came days before elections, with a poll showing a tight race between Netanyahu’s right-wing bloc and Gadi Eisenkot’s opposition.
