Trump says he told Ramaswamy to keep Ohio governor race ad: "you got to ride with it"

President Donald Trump is defending a contentious ad in Ohio’s governor race from Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy that features Democrat Amy Acton’s long-estranged mother calling her dishonest. Acton has said her mother’s second husband molested her when she was young; he was charged and entered a not-guilty plea, and Acton says she has not spoken with her mother since age 12. Speaking to reporters Friday, Trump dismissed questions about those abuse allegations and said the spot did not involve the stepfather. At a Thursday rally, he recalled urging Ramaswamy to stay with the ad. Several Republicans, including Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Rep. Ashley Hinson, have condemned it; Acton calls it exploitative, while Ramaswamy says it is not about childhood abuse.
