NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said Monday that European allies and Canada have raised their collective defense spending to roughly four percent of GDP. Speaking on the eve of a summit in Ankara, he noted a nearly 20% jump in core defense investment from the prior year, with an extra $258 billion planned for 2025 and 2026. Rutte also announced that at a Tuesday forum with defense manufacturers, member countries would unveil major new procurements worth many billions of dollars. The push comes as NATO nations work toward a goal of spending five percent of GDP on defense by 2035.
