Sanae Takaichi asks U.S. for "full cooperation with the investigation" into Okinawa woman's death
“full cooperation with the investigation”

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi told lawmakers that Japan had protested to Washington and asked for U.S. help in the inquiry into a woman’s alleged murder by a Marine, along with tighter oversight of American personnel, after the woman’s death. The case led U.S. forces on Okinawa to be barred from drinking for two days and placed under a 30-day curfew. Prosecutors last week indicted the Marine accused of murder. Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi said a second Marine was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving during the curfew; media reported the arrest occurred Saturday. Koizumi said Japan urged the U.S. to enforce rules and prevent further incidents. The episodes have revived anger over the large U.S. presence on Okinawa and been a persistent problem in relations between the close security allies.
