Trump says Iran "could never function in the same way" if it acquired nuclear weapons

At a Washington campaign event on Monday, President Donald Trump rejected the suggestion he was considering another military attack on Iran once Tuesday’s midterm voting ended, saying diplomacy was advancing. He asserted Tehran would not get nuclear arms and urged voters to weigh his administration’s work on that goal, warning that Iran could not continue as it does if it acquired such weapons. In a separate Axios interview, Trump said there was no hurry to decide on renewed strikes, said US pressure had gravely hurt Iran’s economy, and called contacts with Tehran positive while accusing its negotiators of stalling. Axios reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pressed for immediate post-midterm strikes in a Saturday call, but Trump chose to keep negotiations going.
