At a Seoul news conference on Tuesday, Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung discussed broadening cooperation across several sectors and called for additional joint defense collaborations. Erdogan pointed to existing artillery and tank projects and said the two sides also considered raising last year’s $11 billion trade volume to $15 billion, revising their free-trade agreement, and launching ventures with Korean firms in markets where Türkiye is active. They also addressed atomic power and mining, citing a 2025 foundation agreement between Turkish and Korean nuclear companies, along with battery, artificial intelligence, and semiconductor work. The talks included shared views on global matters, Korean Peninsula peace efforts, and coordination at multilateral bodies. Four memorandums covering science and technology, mining, energy, and nuclear financing were signed.
