Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said after a Sunday call with President Donald Trump that their teams would spend the next few weeks trying to complete a trade agreement. Trump, in a Fox News interview, said Washington would reach a deal with Canada soon and described it as beneficial for U.S. farmers. The two countries have imposed tariffs totaling billions of dollars on each other, and the tariffs have become an issue in northern border states such as Michigan and Maine ahead of Tuesday’s U.S. midterm elections. Carney’s comment indicates that negotiators will now attempt to turn the leaders’ discussion into a finalized outcome.
