Trump in 2016 RNC address says "I alone can fix it"

The article cites a 2016 Republican National Convention address by then-candidate Donald Trump to illustrate his tendency to cast himself as a solitary problem-solver. It reports that Democrats won both chambers of Congress in this week’s midterms, placing Trump in the closing period of his second term. Trump first told Fox News he thought he could work with Democrats, then said that although they held control, he still could veto their legislation. The article characterizes his response as consistent with a history of avoiding compromise and pushing back when challenged. It says divided government could bring clashes over legislation, veto overrides and Democratic-led investigations, including into the Iran war and alleged White House corruption.
