“the technology of fighting at a distance”
Speaking at a NATO defence forum, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy advocated for his country’s membership in the alliance, arguing that Ukraine’s battlefield experience and weaponry would strengthen collective security. He pointed to new long-range Ukrainian drones and missiles—what he called “the technology of fighting at a distance”—that have struck Russian oil refineries as far as Siberia, effectively eliminating Moscow’s ability to keep its industrial sites safe from attack. Zelenskyy also urged European nations to develop their own anti-ballistic missile systems as an alternative to depleted U.S. Patriot interceptors. Ukraine remains far from NATO membership, with allies hesitant to admit a country actively at war with nuclear-armed Russia.
