“"good foundation for a successful final deal"”
The U.S. military carried out new airstrikes on Iranian targets early Wednesday after three commercial vessels were hit in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating hostilities that risk unraveling an interim agreement meant to end the conflict. The strikes, which officials said would target air defenses, missile sites, and port facilities, came hours after Washington revoked a license that had permitted temporary Iranian oil sales. That license had been granted during negotiations in Switzerland, which Vice President JD Vance described at the time as laying the groundwork for a final settlement. Iran accused the U.S. of violating the deal. The attacks threaten to disrupt shipping through a critical chokepoint for global oil and gas trade, just as efforts to restore normal passage were gaining momentum.
