“"One of the things we're gonna be talking about is we're gonna give a license to you to make Patriots. That's pretty cool, right?"”
President Donald Trump, meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Turkey on Wednesday, expressed optimism about ending the Russia-Ukraine war and proposed allowing Ukraine to manufacture Patriot air-defense systems under license. Trump told Zelenskyy that the U.S. would grant permission for Ukraine to build the interceptors, though he acknowledged the company had not yet been notified. The meeting followed Trump’s July 4 calls with both Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, even as Russian strikes continued on Kyiv. During the press conference, Trump also asked whether Zelenskyy would travel to Moscow; Zelenskyy joked it would be difficult due to Ukrainian drones there. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said shifting war dynamics, including Russia’s difficulty defending its airspace, could create room for negotiations. Both leaders struck a positive tone afterward on social media.
