The United States carried out a fresh wave of airstrikes against Iranian military positions, after President Donald Trump announced he had ordered intensified attacks following an earlier exchange. Explosions were reported by Iranian state media in southern port cities near the Strait of Hormuz, including Bandar Abbas and Sirik. Trump posted on Truth Social that the strikes were retaliation for Iran’s bombing of commercial vessels and warned of even heavier attacks if such actions recurred. Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, responded that the U.S. had not learned that threats no longer come without consequences, and said the strait would operate under Iranian terms only. The U.S. Central Command said the operation struck 90 targets meant to impair Iran’s capacity to threaten shipping. Trump also declared the two-month ceasefire agreement signed in June effectively dead, calling further negotiations pointless.
