“broad affection between our peoples”
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to finalize a uranium supply agreement with India during Narendra Modi’s three-day visit. Speaking at a Melbourne business event, Albanese observed that despite warm ties between citizens, the bilateral relationship has not reached its full potential, crediting Modi and corporate leaders for recent progress. The deal would resume uranium shipments stalled since a 2014 nuclear cooperation pact due to nonproliferation worries. Modi will address a large rally of Indian diaspora at Marvel Stadium. The visit occurs amid controversy: human rights groups criticize Modi’s record, Australian police warned a minor over a death threat, and a far-right activist was ejected from Modi’s hotel after shouting insults.
