“and met up with our new Air Force One”
After the NATO summit in Turkey, President Donald Trump departed Ankara on an older presidential aircraft rather than the newly refitted Boeing 747 donated by Qatar, which had flown him to the summit. He later boarded that new plane at RAF Mildenhall in Britain for the final leg home. Trump wrote on social media that he "met up with our new Air Force One" at the base, where service members could view the aircraft. The trip marked the first international use of the Qatari-donated jet, which was quickly retrofitted by defense contractor L3Harris. Democratic lawmakers have estimated the conversion will cost over $1 billion and raised security concerns, while Boeing’s own purpose-built next-generation Air Force One remains years behind schedule.
