““must establish an institutional foundation that allows companies to trade and invest freely””
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, speaking Thursday at a business forum in Ulaanbaatar, urged his country and Mongolia to create legal and regulatory conditions that enable companies to conduct cross-border trade and investment without barriers. Lee’s comment came as he promoted expanding the “Mongtan” cooperation model—a retail and distribution partnership named after a portmanteau of Mongolia and a Korean satellite city—into broader sectors including infrastructure, critical minerals, and finance. He noted that the two nations had just finalized a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which he said would lower obstacles in goods, services, and investment. Lee also signed memorandums with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh covering logistics, workforce development, and the planned capital Kharkhorum, aiming to open what both leaders call a “golden age” in bilateral ties. The forum followed their summit earlier that day.
