Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Auckland on July 10 and was received by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, marking the first official visit by an Indian head of government to the country in forty years. Modi is set to hold bilateral discussions covering trade, defense, and other areas of partnership, and will also meet business and sports figures as well as address the Indian diaspora. Upon landing, Modi posted online that he anticipates talks with Luxon about the full scope of India–New Zealand relations and that he will speak at a community event the following day. The landmark trip follows a free trade agreement signed in April and a prior meeting between the two leaders in New Delhi in 2025.
