“resurgence of the communist menace”
On the eve of July 4, Donald Trump delivered a speech at Mount Rushmore where he warned of a so-called "resurgence of the communist menace" in the United States. Trump's remarks followed a string of Democratic primary victories by Democratic Socialists of America candidates in New York, Colorado, and Washington, D.C., who had unseated incumbent Democrats. The former president has labeled these winners communists rather than socialists, citing their use of Marxist language and calls to "seize the means of production." Mainstream Democrats have offered little public defense of the DSA winners, partly because some view the group as exploiting the party's infrastructure to defeat its own members. The dispute underscores growing ideological divisions within the Democratic Party as Trump frames the DSA's rise as an existential threat to American liberty.
