“a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!”
After U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham’s death this past weekend, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster selected his sister, Darline Graham Nordone, to fill the vacant seat until January. Nordone, who has no prior elected office experience, was a constant presence in her brother’s political life and was raised by him after their parents died when he was in his early twenties. A special Republican primary is set for next month, with a general election opponent, Democrat Annie Andrews, already in place. Hours before McMaster’s announcement, former President Donald Trump posted online that he had urged the governor to pick Nordone, describing the move as an excellent way to honor the late senator, whom he said held deep affection for his sister.
