South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has appointed Darline Graham Nordone to fill the Senate seat left vacant by her brother, the late Senator Lindsey Graham, who died over the weekend at age 71. President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post that he had urged McMaster to choose Nordone for the role, calling the move a fitting honor for Graham. Nordone will serve until January 2027. A special Republican primary election is scheduled for August to select a party nominee for the general election; Graham had already won the primary and was seeking a fifth term.
