“Did you ask her? Did you care enough to ask? How can you be chair and not ask your vice chair whether or not she violated the blackout period, violated the law?”
During a Senate Banking Committee hearing Wednesday, Senator Elizabeth Warren pressed Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh over a reported ethics breach by Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman, who allegedly spoke at a Bank of America dinner during a blackout period. Warren criticized Warsh for not questioning Bowman about the incident, asking why he had failed to do so and suggesting his inaction reflected a culture tolerant of misconduct. Warsh responded that he would rely on the Fed’s inspector general rather than prejudging the matter. The exchange was part of a broader confrontation where Warren also accused Warsh of concealing the source of over $100 million in asset sales made before taking office, though Republican Senator Mike Rounds later gave Warsh an opportunity to deny receiving any such payment.
