“I was thinking, what are you actually doing? Why are you going to play that record next? And why are they going to react to it?”
On the BBC Radio 4 program *Desert Island Discs*, musician Norman Cook—known professionally as Fatboy Slim—detailed his struggles with alcoholism and the anxiety he faced after completing rehab in 2009. The 62-year-old said his wife at the time, radio host Zoe Ball, gave him an ultimatum to quit drinking, which he called his "wake-up moment." After getting sober, Cook described feeling paralyzed and unable to enjoy his performances during his first few shows back. He recalled questioning his own choices on stage, wondering why he would pick a particular song and how the crowd would respond. The DJ noted that a concert in Japan eventually helped him regain confidence. Cook has now been sober for nearly 15 years.
