“made a multimillion contribution”
The Trump administration has submitted a proposal to install permanent fencing around Lafayette Park, the seven-acre green space directly north of the White House that has served as a site for demonstrations for over a century. The plan, filed with a federal review commission, calls for eight-to-nine-foot barriers that could be closed during heightened security, with work beginning in 2027. The park has been blocked by temporary fencing since January, initially for repairs, but the new proposal would make the closure permanent. In an April post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump stated he had already contributed a multimillion-dollar sum toward beautifying the park. Critics worry the move will further restrict public access to a historic gathering place for protesters.
