An immigrant detainee who had agreed to voluntarily leave the United States died in a private Mississippi prison after being placed in a cell meant for observation. Delvin Rodriguez, a Nicaraguan arrested in Colorado, was found unresponsive during the afternoon, according to statements from immigration authorities and the facility’s operator. Advocate Alex Sánchez questioned the absence of staff assigned to watch him, noting that personnel had intervened over his behavior the day before. Rodriguez is among more than 50 detainees who have died in federal custody under the current administration.
