Former U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on a brewing dispute over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned September visit to New York for the U.N. General Assembly, after the city’s mayor, Zohran Mamdani, said his office is exploring whether local law allows Netanyahu’s arrest. The mayor pointed to an International Criminal Court warrant issued in 2024 accusing Netanyahu and a former Israeli defense official of war crimes and crimes against humanity—charges both deny. On Monday, Trump declared on Truth Social that Netanyahu will face no arrest in the U.S., adding that those who should be apprehended are the individuals who brought Iran to its current state of destruction, a situation he said prior presidents should have addressed long ago. Netanyahu’s office dismissed the ICC as illegitimate and criticized the mayor.
